The autumn season also starts at University Sprts Clubs with beginner courses. You can get involved in the activities of the clubs by contacting the club of interest directly.
Aikido
Aikido club Seitokai - Aikido is a budo style based on Japanese martial arts including both body and weapon techniques. There is no competition in aikido.
Basic course starts on MON 16.9. at 17.00 at the sports hall of the basement level of Porthania building. Training schedule at Porthania: MON 17.30-19.00 and FRI 17.15-18.45.

Bujinkan
We will begin training in a beginner friendly way next weeks Tuesday,
focusing on the fundamentals of our art, while also demonstrating how
training evolves as your skills get better. So, now is a good time to
join and give it a try.
We Train in the martial art of Bujinkan Budō Taijutsu, which is based
on Ninja and Samurai traditions that date back a thousand years. The
art combines unarmed and weapons training to develop universal
principles of survival. We aim to achieve smooth natural movement, an
immovable mind, and a sincere heart.
Beginners course starts on Tuesday 10.9.2024 at 18:00 in Urhea-hall
(Mäkelänkatu 47, Taitosali).
- Training on Tuesdays 18:00 - 19:30, Thursdays at 18:00 - 19:30 and
Sundays at 11:30 - 13:30.
- Course will last for about 2.5 months.
- Easiest to join the course during the first 2 weeks of training.
- When you first arrive, new students are met at the lobby and go
through the gate together.
- The course fee is 60€ for university students and faculty members,
120€ for others. First week is free.
- Course will be taught in English if needed.

Kashima Shinryu
Traditional Japanese Budo - Kashima-Shinryū
Kashima-Shinryū is a traditional Japanese martial art (koryū) that was established five centuries ago and developed as a pedagogical system for a professional warrior in feudal times.
A novice first studies basic swordsmanship (kenjutsu) and unarmed fighting (jūjutsu), to build a set of fundamental skills that serve as the foundation upon which all advanced Kashima-Shinryū is based. After learning the fundamentals of the art, the study expands to cover the main fighting tools of the medieval bushi, such as dagger, short sword, various pole weapons, various throwing weapons and the spear.

Taekwon-do
Trainings start 22.9.2024
Have you always wanted to learn flashy kicks, punches and blocks? Do you want to improve your balance, flexibility and mobility of body? Are you in need of self-defence skills?
University of Helsinki Taekwon-do Club provides a beginners’ course for all adults (over 18 years). The beginners’ course starts September 22nd. Training sessions will be given in Porthania gym (Yliopistonkatu 3) on Sundays at 11:00-12:30. The course costs 70.00 €, or 60€ if you participate with a friend. Fee includes training, membership and belt exam fees, and ITF Federation license fee. Until the beginning of October you can attend beginners' course for free!

About Taekwon-do:
Taekwon-do is a fast-paced Korean martial art that can be used for defence and offence. This martial art is especially famous for its diversity of kicking techniques and suits people from different groups of age, both as a competitive and general fitness sport.
Taekwon-do develops physical features of the body, such as coordination, agility, mobility and general fitness level. Additionally, it improves focus, perseverance and self-confidence in facing new challenges.

Taido
University Taido Club’s training starts in September 2024! The starting days for newcomers are Tuesdays 10.9., 15.10. and 19.11., but you can join at other times too!
Taido, the path of the body and mind, is a versatile and agile martial art, where punching, kicking and throwing techniques utilize the strength of the whole body. A special feature of the sport are also the flips, somersaults and cartwheels familiar from gymnastics. Taido is a challenging and fun martial art, where you can progress up to the national team level.
